Solar Committee
Our Solar Committee is ramping up their campaign to get Hamilton investing in solar power as a renewable and clean energy alternative to fossil fuel.
We believe that our energy needs to be clean, reliable, and affordable. Climate collapse, geopolitical instability, and economic uncertainty are all highlighting the absolute necessity to get off fossil fuels and start aggressively investing in renewable, clean energy sources, including solar power:
Rooftop panels generate electricity with no air or carbon pollution; they require no additional fuel sources to operate.
They are getting cheaper: According to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)
solar photovoltaic panels were more than 80% cheaper in 2017 than they were in 2009 and prices have continued to fall.
Investing in renewables like solar power instead of fossil fuels will ensure an energy system that is far less susceptible to the geopolitics of global fossil fuel producers, volatile markets, and price spikes.
The Solar Committee is currently conducting research, connecting with allies in Hamilton and across Canada, and preparing to address City Council with a proposal for investment is solar panel use across the city.
